How to Prepare
for Your Branding Photo Session
If you’ve booked a branding session with me — first of all, I am so excited. Branding photography is about more than headshots. It’s about visually communicating who you are, what you do, and why your work matters.
As an Albuquerque branding photographer, my goal is to create images that feel elevated, strategic, and completely aligned with your business. This guide will help you feel confident and fully prepared for your session.
Why Preparation Matters
Strong branding photos don’t happen by accident. When your wardrobe, props, location, and vision all align, your images:
- Attract your ideal clients
- Elevate your website and social media presence
- Create brand consistency across platforms
- Position you as a professional in your industry
A little preparation goes a long way in creating images that work for your business.
Clarify Your Brand Vision
Before your session, take time to define your brand identity.
Ask yourself:
- What 3–5 words describe my brand? (Modern, warm, bold, minimal, luxury, earthy, playful, refined?)
- Who is my ideal client?
- How do I want people to feel when they land on my website or Instagram?
- Where will I primarily use these images? (Website banners, social media, email marketing, product launches?)
If you have brand colors, fonts, a logo, or a mood board, please send them ahead of time. The more I understand your brand strategy, the more intentional your final gallery will be.

What to Wear for Branding Photos
Wardrobe plays a huge role in the overall look and professionalism of your images.
General Guidelines
- Choose 2–4 outfits that reflect different aspects of your brand
- Stick to cohesive tones that align with your brand colors
- Avoid loud logos, busy patterns, or distracting graphics
- Make sure everything fits well and feels comfortable
- Steam or iron all clothing beforehand
Suggested Outfit Variety
- Polished / Elevated Look: Perfect for website headers and marketing materials
- Business Casual Look: Approachable, confident, everyday professional
- Lifestyle Look: Behind-the-scenes, working shots, candid movement
Layers such as blazers, cardigans, structured jackets, or statement accessories can quickly add variety without a full outfit change.

Hair & Makeup Recommendations
Professional hair and makeup are highly recommended for branding sessions. Camera lighting can soften features, and professional styling ensures you look polished and confident.
Tips:
- Keep makeup timeless and aligned with your brand
- Avoid heavy shimmer or overly dramatic contour
- Choose a hairstyle that feels like you — just elevated
The goal is to look like your best, most confident self.

Props That Tell Your Story
Branding sessions are about storytelling. Thoughtful props help communicate what you do.
Consider bringing:
- Laptop, tablet, or phone
- Notebook, planner, or styled desk items
- Coffee mug or branded drinkware
- Products, packaging, or tools of your trade
- Business cards, thank-you cards, or branded materials
Bring only items that genuinely represent your daily workflow. Intentional simplicity photographs beautifully.
